FS: '90 V8 Quattro

                                  For Sale

             '90 V8 Quattro, Grey w/black interior, 162K miles

I'm preparing to trade or wholesale this car. However, I post it here since it
may be of interest to a QUATTRO-L member who has the resources to perform a fair
amount of self-maintenance in exchange for a really fun Quattro.

First the good news:

Cosmetically the car is in very good to excellent shape. Absolutely no dings or
dents in any of the side panels. Some minor paint chipping (which has been
touched up) around the grille and leading edge of the hood. One ~1" shopping
cart crease in the rear part of the rear quarter panel (right where the panel
and trunk lid seam meet). Perfect candidate for paintless dent repair. From the
Audi maintenance records (I'm 2nd owner) I understand that the car had
pre-delivery damage to the clearcoat (acid rain?) and there are a few very
subtle traces of clearcoat overspray/peeling.

Engine and drivetrain have been solid as a rock. I've experience no problems
whatsoever, nor do I expect any, although a tuneup may be in order soon. Has
had regular Audi dealer service up through 110K miles, and Euro-Sport Motorcar
(E-SM) Manchester NH (recently moved to Merrimack NH), since then.

Tires: (COMP-TA 225VR15) One new (just replaced due to a thrown belt), other
three have about 30-40% tread left.

Brakes: When I had the wheels pulled a few months back (req by NH inspection)
the pads appeared to have better than 50% wear left. Front rotors/calipers
are the upgraded (some would say downgraded) style and there is no discernible
warping or pulsing.

E-SM replaced the front strut cartridges (Boge's) and timing belt at 154K miles.

And now for the bad news:

Left headlight wiper not working. This appears to be a loose connection between
the wiper shaft and motor. Trivial to fix except it's unreachable without
removing the bumper.

Heated seat (drivers side) operates intermittently. This is most likely a
connector problem somewhere as the heating element has been replaced.

Drivers side window has occasional squeal. It has been doing this sporadically
for the last two years. Noise sometime goes away for weeks at a time, at other
times it will chirp (or squeal) almost every time window is raised. (When this
happens, the noise will go away if the window motion is stopped and then
resumed.) Possible causes range from a defective regulator/motor (my suspicion)
to someting dirty, loose, or possibly moisture sensitive in the track assembly
although there are no rattles or scraping sounds. E-SM tells me to leave it
alone until it breaks.

Left rear trailing link arm "may" have worn bushing. E-SM mechanic feels there
is some play in the rear wheel and wants to replace the arm (~$170), while
another mechanic didn't feel there was a problem. Had experienced some wear on
the inside tire tread, but this doesn't appear to be continuing after a 4-wheel
alignment. Should be watched.

I've just started to experience some power steering fluid loss. (Yes, that well
known Pentosin stuff.) Quite possibly a hose connector problem, but worst case
it's the PS pump itself. If so, a rebuilt unit is ~$400. Won't know until
someone digs in there and E-SM says it's a 6 hour job. Absolutely not the
steering rack. I've already had that experience on an '85 5000.

Why did I tell you all of this?

Simply because I don't want to waste your time, or mine.

Current (Sept 95) NADA book values are:

     Trade in $16,000
     Loan $14,400
     Retail $18,875

NADA adjustment for high mileage produces a wholesale figure of between
$9,600-$11,725 depending on whether you use the table (which only goes to 150K)
or the Note: "Deduction for high mileage should not exceed 40% of trade-in
value."

A friend, who owns four franchises, had his used car manager aggressively market
the car to their usual wholesalers. Despite the NADA figures, the best they can
come up with is $9,500. Why don't I take the deal? Unfortunately, even though
he'll sell me anything in inventory at true cost, (even including holdback and
rebates!) there's nothing (Ford/Pontiac/Toyota/VW) I want. I really have my eye
on an A4Q!

Bottom line is a "relatively" (do like that A4Q!) firm asking price of: $9,500.

(Have use for, and will consider, 4000Q trades.)
