Re: 5000 CSTQ clutch problems

Paul,

Ah, the sinking clutch problem. Check if the fluid level is dropping.
The clutch uses brake fluid from the brake reservoir. Check for leaks
around the master and slave cylinders. The master cylinder is located
in the passenger compartment right behind and slightly above the clutch
pedal. The slave is located on top of the tranny towards the passenger
side of the engine bay (look directly below the PS/PB hydraulic fluid
reservoir). If you see no leaks, then it is the master cylinder seals
gone bad; they are allowing the fluid to leak past them, inside the
cylinder; thereby no exterior leak.

Master cylinder is not hard to replace. I've documented and posted the
procedure to this list before. If you decide to do it yourself, email
me and I'll send it to you. The clutch cylinder is probably harder to
get at (I've never replaced this myself). Power bleeding is recommended
(if you have an air compressor), but others have managed without. This
procedure has been documented as well.
