I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the information
provided to me.  I became the proud owner of an
'84 4000s this weekend.  63K mi verified and a great price.
The Quattro will have to wait a year or so for my financial
situation to improve comfortably.

I don't have any great driving stories yet, while looking over the
car, the mechanic found a thin antifreeze trail from the water pump.

I believe this means the bearings are going.  Is there a good supplier
for this (1.8l, 1984, 5spd) waterpump in the ChicagoLand area?
