[Q] Oil Temp Guage and misc

I just bought an 87 4000 CS Quattro, against some people's advice and
I have not driven a car this fun to drive. My question concerns the
Oil Temp Guage near the ash tray. I have never seen anything like that
on a car and I am not sure how to read it. The manual says that the
range is 60 - 170 Celsius and the only warning is to not drive it
harshly if it is around 60 Celsius. Well, on a trip of 6 hours or so,
after a couple of hours I saw that the temperature was at 150, then
170 and then sometimes it would just go out of scale. No other warning
signs came on, anyone knows what is going on in here?

Also, on the quattro switch, I can lock the central diffrential, the
light comes on, the position is 1, but when I switch to position 2,
i.e., the rear diffrential no lights come on. Any ideas

     Thanks in adavnce.
