Winning

Bob:

That post took a long time to put in the right light..... I would be the
last guy to discourage a rookie, all of us racers had that first
season....... Just trying to slide a little reality into the outlook.....
Exciting he did as well, you bet.... "Intents and purposes" proved us old
race farts wrong, I don't think so, a .500 time is forever in almost all
forms of racing, and definitely in auto-x, great skill or no, and the mx-6
got him (and by prediction by more than a few), period.... There are
potentially 500 places in that 1/2 second, by even the most informal of
auto-x's..... Is there a great potential driver, me thinks so..... And my
post certainly applauds the accomplishment.... But what I saw was enthusiasm
turned to "I can do this if I......", and Jeff, and Eric, and Glen and
myself, and a few others can attest to spending gobbs of money on toys, and
it might be the neatest toy unto itself, but to say a 100k 4kq would take a
guy at a national or even a divisional who pours over his tight low mileage,
track only mx-6 is giving some serious false hope....... And I know first
hand (Central Division) that there are the hard core guys that are already
planning their next "winner" auto-x puchase, before the car is even in the
showrooms, the MR2 comes to mind, way back when...... The first year of
"racing" should be the exciting, don't know any better than to stumble on a
winning record, it's the second year that tempers or breaks you..... For
Steve to pop the piggy bank on a car that he drives daily, and without the
"National" view of auto-xing, no reigns from the BTDT crew would be
deriliction of our old fart racer duties.......

"After all, it's only sheet metal" - the response from the sport-q owner to
the C&D ninny who put the car into the track fence
