'87 5kTQ ThermoSwitch

Over the weekend I flushed out my cooling system and replaced the thermostat
with an 80 C job. BTW, the one in there was ORIGINAL, and was still
functioning when I removed it! Anyhow, I managed to mess up the thermoswitch
(I think) while I was in there messing around. I had to remove the connector
for the switch to get a wrench on the lower bolt on the thermostat housing, and
when I did I noticed that the connection on the sensor itself was quite loose,
wiggled around in the sensor housing. Not good I thought, but I just left it
alone. Installed the new thermostat, filled 'er up, then started it to check
for leaks and such. The car got fairly warmish before the fan ever kicked on,
that was curious I thought. But whe it DID turn on, it turned on warp speed,
and never turned off. The temp of the car dropped to BELOW operating
temperatures, and the fan never turned off, so I killed the ignition and went
inside. Let the car sit for about three hours, came out to make a beer run (it
was about forty outside, quite cold) and as soon as I stareted the car the fan
came on warp speed again. Hmm... Rained all day Sunday so I couldn't fool
with it, but I drove it plenty and it did the same thing, every time the
inition's on so is the stage II fan. Well, I came out this morning to drive
her to work, and the fan never came on! Yay I thought, but then the fan NEVER
came on... Got uncomfortably warm in traffic. Anyhow, is this symptomatic of
a screwed thermoswitch? Or did I muss another connection somewhere? I wasn't
worried about it MUCH when the fan was on all the time, at least the car
wouldn't overheat. But now I'm gonna hafta park it and drive a yvehC untll I
can get this fixed... Ideas anyone?
