Where did you get the $500 per month lease price for an A4 from?
Even an A6 doesn't lease for that.

A local dealer (Pass & Weisz, Burlington MA) advertised the following
A4 lease last weekend:

A4, including auto trans, all-weather package & dest. charge,
36 month closed end lease,
$2500- down, $299- per month, purchase option $15878-.

I'm sure a 5speed A4 Quattro would be in the same range.

Nothing personal, but this is comparing apples to oranges.  The car 
listed in the ad would probably sticker at about 28k and with a 
reasonable discount applied could reasonably be in the 360 to 380 range 
as a lease.  Keep in mind that with this deal the dealer is getting 
2500 down where the 500 per month lease was for a car that stickered at 
about 31500 and had NO money down.  The 2500 down is worth about 70 a 
month.  I bet if you look at the fine print it will tell you to add 
"use charge" (6% sales tax each month) on top of this which will add 
another 22 per month to the cost.  A no money down lease in this 
scenario probably actually costs about 400 a month, not 299.
