Techron "procedure"
In 1988 or 89 Audi sent me a notice recommending the use of the fuel additive
Techron. Their own brand is/was called Autobahn... Since I had my car in for
service, I had a chance to speak with the serv. manager. He explained a
recommended procedure, rather than just dumping it in now & then. I don't
know where he got it from, but I liked the sound of it because it implied
that this additive actually does something. For what ever its worth, here it
is:
1) Wait until your a few hundred miles from doing an oil change.
2) Add bottle of Techron to tank BEFORE topping off with gas-this washes and
dilutes the chemicals that otherwise would remain in the filler neck and
cause corrosion.
3) Wait until gas tank is as close as possible to empty before filling again.
4) Top off gas tank again. Use up this tank.
5) Then change oil.
It may be a folly, but I've been using this procedure for last 180,000mi,
haven't had any fuel or mixture problems, still strong. Only thing
unclear-how often to do this. Dealership closed down shortly after above
advice. I've been doing about every other oil change.
