urQ exhaust
Quattrites,
I finally replaced my rear muffler with a Borla, and my center muffler with
a piece of straight pipe. It looks good, and sounds good at idle. It
seems to pull smoother and a bit stronger under hard acceleration, although
that is strictly a seat-of-the-pants impression. The bad news is that it
is noisier, particularly at @ 2000 rpm (this is a daily driver). I also
added the Borla "Intercooler" tips which made no discernable difference to
the sound, but at least they seem to suit the car.
I haven't had it long enough to decide I can't live with the noise, but I
am curious about the effects of fitting either a small conventional muffler
or one of the "Thrush" shaped Borla's where the center muffler used to be.
The latter should be much easier to fit, since the ends of the pipe it must
mate to are in line, and too close to the driveshaft for a conventional
muffler. I believe that Borla has a model that would weld right in, but I
would like some idea of whether or not it would make a difference before I
have it done.
Has anyone tried this combination? The rear muffler I just put in is a
Borla 40668 SS with 2 1/2 inlet and twin 2 1/4 outlet.
