clutch?

Hi all,

I think I may need a new clutch.  After driving I can smell a burning 
smell (as in clutch/brakes, not electrical) and I have to let the 
clutch pedal up pretty high to make it go (I've only owned the car 
about a month so I don't know if it's always been like that).  
However, I haven't really noticed the clutch slipping.  Does this 
sound like a clutch problem?  Also, if it is the clutch, can I drive 
it until it starts to slip - like I said I haven't noticed any 
performance problems, or will it do damage if I don't take care of it 
early?
