Steering Wheel Noise

Greetings,

The steering wheel in my (my wife's) '86 4000CS Q just began making strange
noises.  It sounds like metal rubbing against metal.  The sound is most
pronounced when turning it slightly from dead center and after a complete
rotation of the wheel.  She said she noticed it today.

The only thing that I had done recently was installing ball joints about two
weeks ago.

Any suggestions?  BTW, still looking for a mechanic/dealer in Florida.  I've
relocated to Gainesville (Go Gators), but I'm willing to drive to
Jacksonville, Orlando, Valdosta (GA), or Tallahasee if necessary (all are
within two hours).
