My VW Quantum GL5 made that same noise in the steering column. Isn't it
annoying? Mine started after some spirited driving (I know...How
spirited can you drive a Quantum?!!!) on an amazing dirt road.
Parking brakes do wonders for remedying understeer. Anyhow, I pulled
the steering wheel off and shot the column full of WD-40. I put the
wheel back on, spun it around a couple of times and the noise was gone.
Maybe your fix will be that easy.

Don't go to Valdosta - waste of time. I worked for Georgia Power there
and Bobby, Harold, David and the other guys over there are a joke. They
claim to be an Audi dealer, but all they sell are VW Jetta GL
automatics. I bet they don't even have an Audi on the lot.
In my opinion, Jacksonville would be the place to go. It's not that far
from Gainsville and I knew of many Valdosta natives that treked down to
Jacksonville when they were ready to buy a car. I think there's a fairly
good dealer there.
