I also have an 87 5000CSTQ.  I have not had to replace the a/c compressor 
in the three years that I've had the car, but I suppose not that the 
sujbect has come up on the list it will go out on the way home from work 
tonight.

Contrary to the experience of others on the list, my car is never 
particularly hard to start. Typically it fires up in 1-3 seconds cold or 
hot.  Must be those Bosch platinum plugs everyone says to avoid.
