Yes, I own an 87 5kCST and have replaced my compressor twice in 185,000 kms.
It really hurts to see all these US$ prices. Audi replacement in CDN$
1700.00. I had the last one rebuilt by a firm in Ottawa,Canada. Cost
$225.00CDN and had been on there 2 years and no noises yet. I have heard
that maybe these guys that are refilling the AC after are not putting enough
lubricate in the Freon.

My 87 use to display this problem and 18 months ago I changed my fuel
distributor and have not looked back since.
