The reason is: As the brakes wear so do the rotors, Now a Rotors heat
capacity is detirmined by it's, 1) Weight and 2) It's Surface area.
That's why a vented rotor that weighs the same as a soild rotor will cool
better.... It's got 3 times the surface area. Now when you skim the
rotors (Others call it "Turning") your reducing the total weight of the
rotor lowering it's heat capacity and making it more prone to fading and
warping.
For me it's just not woth the problems that Skimming can introduce,
Beside's unless your really abusing the brakes you should not be warping
the rotors.
