Haha, you've got the exact same problem I do in the '84 5kS. Start the car,
runs great at 900. As the car warms up, the idle raises, and when at operating
temperature it hovers at 2,000 RPM's. My problem turned out to be a shot idle
control RELAY. Not the first time it's gone bad in this car. I fixed the
problem by unpluging the stupid thing and uping the idle mixture screw. The
car ain't worth the $250 Audi wants for it. Downside is, now that the car's in
Colorado and it's getting cold out there (so I hear) the car doesn't like to
start, so I had Ann plug the thing back in (ever try to give Audi repair
techniques over the phone??? Entertained her neighbors she said...)
