That sounds like a big difference, but it may be the auxiliary air
regulator. This is a small part mounted on the back of the head which
increases the cold idle speed. If it isn't working, the cold idle will be
too low, and may have been adjusted to 900 rpm (standard reaction) to
compensate. The result will be too fast an idle once the engine warms up.
Easy to change, about $90 at the dealer when I changed mine.
