I was trying to say the opposite. You can, however, use the factory oil
temp gauge from a 4000, mounted in the diff lock panel, with a factory oil
temp sender in place of the oil pump plug. I also just heard that some
Audis have a water temp sender in the fitting connecting the engine to the
rad input hose.

I think it's sort of a limp-home mode to protect the engine if something
isn't up to spec.

I went through everything in the supplement, which actually includes at
least 4 things that can cause the 4000 rpm cutoff. I even buzzed every
wire going to the ecu, and measured every source for resistance. I have
never seen the condition I found identified as a possible cause.

Switches, I suppose.

None whatever.
