I agree, I haven't had to put chains on either.  

My point isn't that you can or cannot get around with or without chains.
 Rather, you are still required to carry chains with you (I know, kinda dumb
if you aren't gonna use them)--all the 4/awd + M+S tire combination does is
keep you from getting ticketed for not having chains on when the signs are
up.  

Also, earlier this year, someone on the list (don't recall who) mentioned
some condition in the Tahoe area where the Hiway Patrol makes EVERYONE--4/awd
included--have chains on or no go.  Haven't seen such a condition here in
Washington, but then we don't have this major resort community like Tahoe, so
they'll more quickly shut down I-90.
