the saga continues

My poor 4000 is still sitting dead in the driveway. My VW buddy
came over and spent 3 hours on a cold afternoon trying to fix it
with me. He checked wires to the computer, seemed OK, swapped
out the DPR, that helped - the main reason it wouldn't start was that
the flow of coolant from the leaky pump caused the TB to slip a notch
or two (I should be a pro at this by now, but timing still
eludes me). Once that was started, he did get the car running once,
and it seemed OK, but later attempts to restart failed. He
thinks either the computer is bad or the fuel head is shot, neither
of which are encouraging. On top of this we noticed that the starter
is going in a big way. So lessee... fuel problems, bad water pump,
bad starter. Hey, I got the wiring for the stereo prep all done
and put the interior back together :).

Seriously though, it's getting flatbedded to an Audi specialist
(the one who recommended it to me) tomorrow, and I'm giving him
a whole week to play with it since I'll be away for a while.
If he thinks it's really bad, or can't fix it, I'm finding a way
to return this sucker.

It's so frustrating, because looking at the car it seems like it's
in nice shape. Maybe it's just something small that will be
easy to fix. Maybe not. The dealer that sold it to me sells
cars out of his backyard, and if he wasn't 1.5 hours away (by flatbed
no less!) I would just take it to him to deal with, but he's not.
He sent me a new waterpump and I'm asking for a starter, but if
repairs are expensive he's chipping in. Time to call DMV...
