I agreed with you. I just bought a 92' 100 with 23.5k miles on it, 
it has a 4 spds automatic transmission. I think it has pretty good torque,
you get all 184 ft/lb of it at 3,000 rpm. It's a really smooth engine compare
to my 85' 5000s. It's kind of slow off the line but once it's started going 
it's quite a fun engine. I think if they gear it differently then it probably
even more fun to drive. I love the sound of it too. :)

I know if someone compare it to a 91' 20v turbo quattro or one of Ned's special
it's probably a bit wimpy. It's no stoplight racer but that's ok I am happy
with my v6. :)
