1. seems like the best solution
2. in the early '70s I owned a Sunbeam Alpine - parts were difficult to 
get - can you image owning a car with a sole-source for engine parts? 
3. hum - interesting idea - the vanagon Diesal engine was slanted x # of 
degrees, also there is the problem of the fuel sys and associated 
plumbing
