now that i think of it, the first cars had Z rated firestones, but then
it turned out that the typical first owners (who have $45K to burn) would
complain about harshness.  they then downgraded tires to the much hated
goodyear eagle GA's, VR speed rated for 150 mph.

invicta GA's were used on audi v8's after the Z rated P600's were deemed
too harsh as well.  i don't remember the time line for this, but i'd
guess that the 91 cars came with invicta GA's.

i think they may have been close to sticking HR tires instead of the VR GA's.
remember that GA's come in HR for that size as well.  the other possibilty
was that some cars came with the "all-season tires option" whereby cheap
all season crap was substituted for premium rubber.  i remember that a
friend bought an 80Q at around the same time as me, and found that to
his horror, the car came shod with 175/70 all seasons instead of the
expected 195/60 HR 14's.

early 90's was when real pinheads were running the audi store.... (i'm
sure glad that herr piech fired them all)  a 100Q equipped to the same
level as a S4 cost almost as much as a S4.  pearl white paint on the
S4 was a $400 option, while it cost $700 on the 100Q!  those poor
fools who bought 100Qs during that time lost out big when it came time
to trade.
