Actually, I have heard to the contrary...
WARNING!!! "Don't put this stuff in your car!!!" WARNING!!!
I downloaded a couple of articles that had very few, if any, positive things
to say regarding teflon-based additives (and additives in general). The
articles' contention is that Dupont, who sells the teflon to Slick 50, and,
as well, all major oil companies, do not endorse the product at all. Dupont
wants nothing to do with it (except make money off the sale of teflon), since
they have found "no proof of the validity of the additive maker's claims" and
stated that they have "no knowledge of any advantages gained through the use
of PTFE in engine oil". And, just think, this is direct from the manufacturer
of the main ingredient!!!
In fact, the article goes further to state that this stuff may do more harm
than good, since it is believed that the minute, teflon particles actually
build up and clog the precious oil passages over the long term. (Kind of like
having 6 donuts a day... just think of your arteries and heart...ie
oil=blood, Slick 50=cholesterol... Ouch!!!)
The articles had in-depth coverage of the particulars of motor oils and oil
additives. They seemed to be from a reliable source, based upon testing by
independent labs, etc....
Well, I won't get into it all too much.... there's too much to get into....
I wish I still had the articles on my hard drive. (I'm not sure if I trashed
them; I looked briefly, and couldn't find them, but when I get a chance, I'll
keep looking.) Then I could send them along to any of you who are interested.
Hopefully, I'll find them....
(Worst case, I could snail-mail some photocopies? HMMM, could get
expensive...)
Anyway, if anyone has any particular question for now about oil additives
and/or Slick 50, I'll look in the articles for an answer. Maybe I can
help....
The info is really good; it certainly opened my eyes a bit.... (Sorry if I am
teasing you all, I hope I can find them...)
Just thought I'd pass the caution along. Hope it helps somewhat.
Needless to say, nothing but high-quality synthetic oil and high-quality,
designed-for-synthetic oil filters go in my "baby".
Take care all. And Happy Holidays!!!
