my mechanic says at least 200K.  the reliability record of the engine has
been exemplary, according to my dealer here.  the only ones that blew up are
those where the owners did not bother to change the timing belt.  there was
also one case of a freak accident where one of the belt idler pulleys broke
off, cutting the belt and leading to badly bent valves.  audi paid 50% of
that one.
