I had a very similar problem with my 84 4ksq.  They have a hydraulic clutch, 
which feeds off the brake hydraulic system.  With mine, when you pushed in 
the clutch, it would not come out by itself, and the clutch would engage 
anyway.  Turns out it was the clutch pedal master cylinder had blown an 
internal seal.  It was about a $35 dollar part, and took all of about 1 hr 
to replace.   ---JCG
