Glen/bob,
I desoldered the chip in the ECU of my '86 5KCSTQ, just in case I
found out what to do. I haven't gotten reall far with the mods, but I
was successful in desoldering, and replacing with a chip socket. I can
now replace the chip if I ever find out how to change the contents of the
chip.
Be very careful that you get tehe new solder joint to go all the
way through the board, as it is a double sided board. Also, when
desoldering, I used a vacuum type solder-sucker. After about 5 joints,
I was pretty good at it. (not _THAT_ kind of joint:-)
On my ECU, there was another board above the chip, so I had to be
very carefull to mount the socket as low as possible on the board.
