Re: EPROMs & mods, etc.
Any thoughts on the pros/cons of installing a regular socket or perhaps a ZIF?
I can't recommend a ZIF socket for serious use.
I have installed a socket on my MAC-02 board, and I have a ZIF socket
soldered to another socket that inserts into the socket on my MAC-02
board. I have had no problems, and I've been running this kludge tower
for 6 months now...
Long term, there is a reason why the boards come "waterproofed" - shit
does get into the ECU box (condensation, etc.), and will over time have
the potential for causing much grief. It's a trade off . . . think about
all those "crimp" connectors Audi likes to use everywhere . . . soldering
is much more reliable and dependable, and a real pain to upgrade the chip
later!
