Aternator woes - 5kTQ
I can't seem to get my alternator belt to stay tight. I tightened it up as
tight as I could, then torqued all the bolts to 50 ft/lbs. It takes about 30
miles (a little less than the trip to work) to loosten that stupid belt up
again, the alternator won't stay put (it isn't the belt, the alternator is
actually moving.) I've never had this problem before, and it's quite
irritating, the belt slips whenever I'm at idle, and in traffic that's a lot,
which makes the car run like crap after five minutes. How can I tighten that
stupid belt & make it stay tight? I've thought about theiving the A/C belt
tensioner from a junked Audi & finegling it onto the alternator, but I don't
think there's the right moutns to do such a task. Anyone ever run into this
problem before? I've done about everything, this is really starting to
irritate me. Anyone who isn't already staring at the car 'cuz of the damage to
the front end, sure stares at it when the belt starts screaming at 1,200
RPM's...
