Ned's Rebuttle
Just got off the phone with Ned Ritchie a few fminutes ago. I guess he's
either on the list after all and just lurks, or someone on the list is
forwarding him posts on all of the pertinent ECU stuff we've been discussing.
The original intent of his call was regarding my ECU repair business, but
I finally asked him if he would care to comment about my earlier post
regarding his IA TQC computer resistor mods. He said that in some cases, he
actually does modify the code in the TQC's, but that it depends on the
customer's intention for use of the vehicle and the level of
modifications the vehicle already has. He was intentionally very vauge
about which vehicles got the actual chip mods and which got the resistor
mods, but he did say that included among the chip mods were vehicles
engaged in off-road competiton of one sort or another. This implies to
me (and I'm only speculating here) that perhaps C.A.R.B. is playing it's
role in determining the haves vs. the have nots.
He also said that he doesn't modify a resistor in the O2 circuit, so that
whole comment I made wondering how he got CARB exemption status modifying
the O2 circuit, well just ignore that. That was my mistake due to the fact
that the IA computers I recieved were older than the one that I hacked,
and the resistor in the O2 cirtuits *ARE* in fact different between the
two IA computers I recieved and my later model stock box - it just turns
out to be a factory change rather than an IA change. Sorry about that.
So, there you have it. That's it to the best of my recollection. I hope
I didn't leave anything out or mis-represent the phone conversation Ned
and I had in any way. Ned, care to pipe in here? I know you're out there
somewhere.... Hope your haircut turns out good, and have fun in
Austrailia! :-)
