Re: dorky dealer

Jess--

The asnwer to your question is that they probably teach these guys very
little. Dont know how old you are, dont know how many cars you've
bought, but, I'm 51 and bought a lot of cars in my life. I can count on
the fingers of one hand the number of salespeople who really know their
product line. As you discovered, it is not just guys pushing Fors and
Chevys either (Hey-- I just got home from a Christmas party--those words
looks backwards to me !).

Lots of years ago when I was driving Porsches, my wife and I found
ourselves in a P/Audi dealership. the salesdude just had to show her a
911 they had just gotten in which, he said, was the perfect car for a
woman. It was a baby blue 911 couple with medium to dark blue leather.
uglier than my last blind date. She was so insulted that shew vowed
never to do business with them again. the reason she drives n sdlO and
not an audi anymore is that after we went to 3 Audi dealers & I
specifically told the salesdude that she was the customer, to talk to her
and not to me, they proceeded to ignore her and give me some line of
sales babble. The sdlO dealer treated her right.

Anyway--so many of these guys are gypsys--sells cars today, motorcycles
tomorrow, etc. The guy I bought my last 3 audis from has just changed
dealerships as the Porsche franchise changed hands. Now I'm really in a
dilemma since there is another salesman at the same dealership who really
knows he product, but they do not sell Audis.

PS: Anyone who is a salesperson, dont get on my case. In addition to my
university identity, I am also a partner in a small sailboat brokerage
business. I know what you mean about people who do not know what they
are selling. Every time I take a new listing for a boat for sale I learn
as much about the manufacturer, model, etc. as I possible can.

Again,Happy holidays everyone.
