Quattro=Awesome
Just came back from a ski trip with the 200QTW. What a beautiful piece of
machinery; it was my first time four wheeling it in the snow and I was blown
away. By the way, I was running on mediocre Riken Mud/Snow tires; 205/60/15
(no chains). Some observations:
1. Climbed a steeep, unplowed, snow covered road. No problem. When the rear
end started to slip out (because I went in too fast on purpose), a simple
blip of the throttle and the rear came back in.
2. ABS is amazing. Slamming on the brakes on snow results in rapid pumping
and controlled stops. Astonishing.
3. Passed a Suzuki Sidekick through heavy snow while relaxing in the comfort
of heated seats
4. Back in the rain, took a turn WAY to fast; car started into a four wheel
drift, straight at a telephone poll. Once again, tap the throttle and she
settled straight and forward.
5. In the dry, downshifted to 3rd through 4th to pass row of cars at 60mph;
exited at over 100mph with nary a ruffled feather.
Though it sounds "gloaty" because I own the car, I am so impressed with the
engineering efforts of AUDI. It was really in its element in these poor road
conditions. The feeling of safety and abilty to go anywhere in comfort far
outweighs the foibles and idiosyncrosies of Audi maintenance. (BTW, the
temperature gauge now works and the rear window wiper doesn't... but I still
love the car, more than ever now!)
