-=> Temp. Warning -- Strange Behavior <=-

In my '88 5kCSTQ, the temp gague remains below 1/2 during highway
driving, and it rises to upto 3/4th if I have a stop-go traffic
(esp. after a highway drive). I guess thats normal, and the gauge is working.
A strange thing that's been happening is that sometimes when the gauge
is below 1/2, the temp. warning light would come on, and it would stay on
for a while (gauge shows the same reading when this happens) and then
disappear. The sequence sometimes repeats. The amount of time for which
the warning light stays on varies (2 to 20 minutes).
This does not happen all the time. I had a 750 mile long drive on Sunday
and this happened 4-5 times in the middle 1/3rd of the journey. (nothing in
1st or 3rd period!). It also happened after about 1/2 an hour's drive
on friday and saturday.

Is this a known/common problem? Anyone there with similar experience?
Any clues as to what to do?

Thanks,

Vinod
