Strange noises/Fuch wheels
Over the last week or so I've noticed what sounds like a 'scoring' noise.
Car is an 87 5KCSTQ. Symptoms are as follows: Can hear best at low speeds
(1st and 2nd gear). 'Seems' like its coming from the passenger side front.
Thought at first it was a pad dragging, but it appears to stop/go away
during a gear shift. When coming to a stop it is heard all the way to dead
stop. Does not get louder, if anything, as car warms up, it lessens. First
started hearing it when the cold weather (<40F) came to town.
Can I figure this is one of the famed Audi wheel bearings going south? I
would prefer that to a front differential (did one of those on a '79 FWD).
I believe I have the Fuch wheels on my 87. These are silver alloy 5 spoke -
holes are almost 'heart-shaped'. Center caps are about 3" w/Audi logo. One
of my caps is cracked/busted. Does anyone have a source/price on a
replacement cap?
TIA
