Well, despite Dan's offer of a used replacement (I'm gonna call you!),
I've run up north twice w/o the air deflector/parts catcher guard.

This means running 70-85 mph up the NY Thruway for a couple
hours.  Not bad, no terrible buffeting.  I think it was better 
with the guard, but there were not obvious and objectionable
shakes/lifts.

If you don't run high speeds, ditch it.  I'll probably replace mine
when I can head up to Westchester.
