ur-quattro idiots
Hi again folks,
To those that didn't know, the ur-quattro has an blue idiot light that
indicates a cold engine. This light should come on while the engine is
warming up. The light occupies the rightmost square of the middle column
of lights. I mean middle ROW of lights. Jeez. And the fasten seat belt
light is in the second column, bottom row. I don't know when the
fasten seat belt light is supposed to come on.
I think it would be really helpful if everyone that has access to an
ur-quattro would make a note of which idiot lights come on when you
switch on the ignition. Which ones come on, which ones blink, and which
ones stay on after the car starts.
Here's a description of the warm up problem I USED to have. Don't have the
warm up problem anymore. Nope. No siree. Um, I'll just sit inside the car
until it warms up, then brush the snow off, thanks. Grrr. So anyway, I start
the car and it starts immediately and idles perfect (at about 900 rpm). Then
about 45 seconds to a minute later, the idle will drop and the engine will
misfire and run rough for another couple minutes. Then when it warms up, it's
fine. The rough running is due to the mixture going stoichiometric too soon
(RDH's SunPro told me so - no I don't have my own yet Rob). I believe this
due to the control pressure regulator heating its resistor too soon. Now
that most of my vacuum and electrical goofiness is fixed, the problem has
pretty much gone away.
So anyway, ur-q jockeys, if you get the chance check out your idiot lights.
