THe joke was actually a humorous perspective regarding computer modems 
which went through in rec.humor few days ago. I suppose it can be 
interpreted by personal experiences. I got chuckle out of it because I 
have to put up with "NO CARRIER" quite often while trying to log on to 
the account myself (more annoying when it happens after I log on -- 
that's where the joke is trying to get at -- flight simulator connected 
by modems).
