rear lid locking system

Hi,
Need a little more help with the rear lid locking system.
I took the cover off (very tight).  The vaccum line seems to be working, 
or at least trying to work.  But the linkage mechanism seems to be 
"loose" and certainly the automatic lock system does not engage.  The 
problem is I don't know how the linkage mechanism is supposed to work, or 
how it is attached to the lock cylinder.  Does anyone out there have any 
experience with that ?
