Leaking Heater Core

I just purchased a 1989 AUDI 100.  I saw the fogged up windshield but it wasn't
the usual multicolored slime that I'm used to with radiator leakes.  It didn't
really smell like antifreeze either.
Now I'm learning about phosphate free antifreeze that doesn't look or smell 
like the green stuff I'm used to.

Ok.  What are my options.  Can a heater core be replaced?  Who can do it?
How much will it cost, parts and labor? Stories are appreciated.
