BOGE struts
I ahppended to be at Euro-Tire in NJ last night talking with
the owner (BTW, every single employee and owner of this shop
owns a Quattro, or one in disguise, eg: VW synchro wagon).
They carry Koni, Bilstein and BOGE shocks. His advice is
aw follows:
Bilstein: Excellent control. Very stiff. Very expensive.
No rear application for 5000Q or 90Q.
Koni: Good control. Very stiff (but adjustable). Similarly
priced to Bilstein. High failure rate.
BOGE ProGas: No rear application 90Q/5000Q. Low failure rate.
progressive valving for good ride. Good control.
Half the Bilstein/Koni price. Excellent OEM replacement
with somewhat better damping.
BOGE TurboGas: Same as ProGas but no progressive (always stiffer).
Good ride/damping trade off. Low failure rate. Half
Bilstein/Koni price. F/R application available for all Qs.
I also have used two sets of the older BOGE Turbo T/S hydrauli
out after 5000 miles. Did not fail, just softened up slowly.
Turbo Gas prices for 90Q were about $120/pr and $140/pr F/R.
Grant
shocks. These were quite a bit stiffer than stock, but evened out after 5000 miles. Lasted
