I have a similar noise in my V8...a few months ago I posted the same
question and Paul Rivera suggested the subframe was slightly out of line an
the exhaust was hitting.  About the same time I was going to put it in the
shop for my timing chain anyway and they supposedly realigned the darn
thing.  I suppose it was quiet for a while afterwards, but it is back now.
I intend to go under myself sometime soon.  In the meantime, other than the
noise I don't notice anything adverse happening (please look kindly on me,
Audi Gods!!  I didn't mean to taunt you).
