Sounds kinda fishy, Dan, None of my 4000qs exhibit those symptoms with either
Mobil1 or Syntec 5w50. If his scheme is true, you'd see it in a compression
test(bad rings) and oil fouled plugs. You need to find out where you stand
with that motor, right? Perhaps have him compression test and/or leakdown
test it?

" His guess is low oil pressure. At this point, he said it's
not even worth putting oil in the engine."

He shouldn't be guessing about your money, put a pressure gauge on the
factory port and see what you get...

"Oh, and that half-joke about sticking in a turbo engine? He said
the conversion runs about $6000 total. A standard replacement
should run $500-800 for the motor and 15 hours of labor ($900
at $60/hr)."

That conversion shouldn't run anywhere near that expensive, I bought my motor
for $350 w/o turbo. It'll take many more than 15hrs for the custom fab work
required, TQC tie rods, battery relocate, exhaust, etc. But then, don't pay
anyone that exorbitant rate for a custom/labor of love project. Ya know it's
one of my pet projects!

If all else fails, flatbed her up to visit me.. :) Always room for one
more at the shop!

Hope this helps,
