I got it! As someone said before, these are definitely love/hate cars. I
love this car, but...
It ran excellent when I drove it on Saturday. Drove for 5 hours straight at
85 MPH or so. Then when I pulled up in front of a friend's house in Redding
for the night, the idle stayed at 2000.
Next morning it started and ran fine, but when I got on the freeway, it
lacked power and "throbbed" or pulsed in the 3000 to 4000 RPM range. Major
heartbreak!
Called Bruce that night when I got home in Portland (after being parked at
the CA/Oregon border for about 5 hours). Seems he was having this problem
before. His mechanic swears it was the frequency valve. The mechanic
replaced it on Friday with one from a 5kt. It worked fine on Saturday, but
that was it. I seem to remember seeing the fix for this in the past of the
list. Guess it's time to hit the archives. :(
All in all, it's a beautiful car. Bruce took very good care of it. He's
done the modifications I would have, so this is a good starting point for me.
After the pulsing problem is fixed, I'll be installing the later style
euro-lights (one piece/integral main and side marker lights) as the driver's
side has a vertical crack in it. Anyone one want to buy a pair of
euro-lights (one has a cracked lense)?
