Can heat warp a wheel?
On the way home last night, sittin' at a light, this guy next to me in a
slammed Jetta's honking his horn at me. I roll down the window to see if he
wanted to shoot me or something, but he's saying how cool my rear wheel is, and
how did I do it. I could barely hear him over the bass thumping in his car, so
I just yelled that they were Borbet's & then the light turned green. I got
home & was walking inside & saw what I guess he was talking about. My right
rear wheel rotor, caliper & hub were glowing a dim orange. Could see them
perfectly through the 17" rims. The rotor & pads (I didn't know the rear pads
had wear indicators too) are history (discovered that last weekend) so I don't
care about them, but can excessive heat warp a rim? My wheels were too hot to
touch (at least I don't have to worry about anyone steeling them!) so I'm
worried about bending or warping one. Any chance of that happening?
