Good post.  

I can't help but imagine that being distressed about C & D's treatment of
Audis reflects a lack of security on the part of the distressee that the
world doesn't acknowledge that he or she owns one of the best cars in the
world.  

Personally, when the "media" praises something or the masses adopt it, I
frequently move on.  Hence, I listen to bluegrass music, rock climb, and
drive an Audi (an exception is watching the X-Files, but my rationalization
is that at least I became a fan before the media hype began).  I think
someone called Thoreau mentioned this phenomenon in the context of marching
and drums.
