wishy washy fluid

Regarding the recent posts on freezing washer fluid, I'm trying one from 
Prestone.  Walmart has it for $2.77, and considering its aan audi it I 
probably ought to pay even more:-)

its interesting fluid -its yellow and has ethylene glycol in it, as well 
as other sundry items. it is marginally better than the old blue stuff, 
but not by much and it seems to leave more of a film.

perhaps this would be a good place to enquire about home made washer 
fluid. Could you make a decent fluid with water and rubbing alcohol?  The 
stuff they used in Germany 5 years ago smelled very strongly of propyl 
alcohol and it worked quite well. any ideas on the right mixture of 
alcohol and water? (I forget my chem 101) I guess we could run 
experiments in our ice cream freezers!
