90 gauge pak option

     Dear Quattrophiles-
        I have a '88 90 quattro which I'm wanting to install the aux. gauge 
     package that came with the 20valve cars. Has anybody tried this? I've 
     started calling the used/dismantlers on the vendor/parts list. I've 
     been given quotes of a low of $100 for wood bezel ,three gauges and 
     bulb booster to a high of $265 for the above plus complete harness. 
     Also
     1. Will I need a new ashtray or will the ashtray disappear        
        altogether?
     2. Is the bulb booster a must. 
     3. Should I spring for the wiring harness or wire it myself.
       
     Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated
