Just got through doing this myself last weekend...  :)  You can do it a 
lot cheaper than that. The only part you will need from the dealer is the 
cage for holding the gauges and the two bushings, and the cover. The wood 
one is expensive, but the black plastic one is only like 10 bucks. Wiring 
it yourself is a breeze, if you got the gauges from an autoparts place 
they came with sending units and lights already. 2 wires per gauge and 
one for the lights (common ground etc..) I had to paint the bulbs orange 
though to match the rest of the instruments. There really is nothing to 
it, but taking the dash ALL apart can be time consuming. This is a full 
afternoon job, not just a couple hours after dinner thing.
