*MY* wierd noise...

Ok...I am almost completely convinced that it's the starter.  Tonight, in the
pouring rain, Diane got in and turned the key.  The car seemed to crank kind
of funny, and then a wierd whirring/squealing noise followed.  Diane let go of
the key, tried it again, and thank god it started...and squealed pretty good
once it did.

Sooo...sound feasible that the starter is to blame?  Would it be the solenoid
or the whole starter?  I plan to take it off this weekend, but I'd like to
have a couple of ideas as to what to look for.
