Tighten your alternator belt.  I had this exact problem a few months ago on the
exact car.  My alt. belt was loose, a little jimmy-rigging got it tight again.
 You didn't hear any squeeling, but it was loose.  My star bolt was stripped,
so the alternator bolt wasn't holding the alternator in place.  Rumor has it
you can go to the dealer for a new one of these star bolts (nutz?) for only a
few pesos, but I just dug around in the 55 gallon drum of bolts & such & found
something to jam throgh & hold the thing in place.  Been happy ever since.
 Also, you said digital dash?  On a '87 5000CS TQ?  Never seen one of those!
 Or are you talking about the climate control readout?  That thing's not
terrbily accurate, if that's what you're refering to...
